More Information

Keith was a leading painter in San Francisco, California, where he became known for his panoramic mountain scenes. This image of two figures nestled into the base of a Giant Redwood reflects Keith’s late, tonalist style, which is characterized by rich, warm colors and minimized details. Like his close friend George Inness, Keith embraced the teachings of Swedish mystic Emmanuel Swedenborg, who promoted the spiritual link between humans, nature, and the divine.
