Why We Ask You Do Not Touch

Although they may not appear so, works of art are often very fragile. For instance, finger pressure on a painting, however light, can cause a paint layer to begin to crack. Such damages are irreversible, even if you can't see the harm immediately. A thousand touches can destroy a painting or other work of art.

A Word About Museum Security

Museums are meant to preserve art of the past and the present for the enjoyment of future generations. For this reason, the museum employs guards to observe visitors while they are in the galleries. Our guards carry walkie-talkies in case of security or health emergencies. As you pass by the guards in the museum's galleries, remember that it is their job to make sure that all visitors and art in the museum are kept safe.
