FREE First Sunday / Sunday SamplerSunday, March 7, 2010 , 11 am - 5 pm |
The museum has teamed up with two downtown neighbors, the Akron-Summit County Public Library and Summit Artspace, to present a full, diverse schedule of FREE programs and activities on the first Sunday of every month, appropriately titled Sunday Sampler.
Museum
At the museum, open from 11 am - 5 pm, the following activities will take place:
- Artist Lecture: Andrew Borowiec, 2 pm - Check out his exhibition Looking for the American Dream: Andrew Borowiec's Ohio Photographs before attending this free lecture by University of Akron Distinguished Professor Andrew Borowiec. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Charles and Jane Lehner Auditorium.
All activities are FREE. As always on the first Sunday of each month, admission into the galleries is free as well.
Library
The Akron-Summit County Public Library, directly across the street from the museum, will be open from 1 to 5 pm. Throughout the day, teens can visit the third floor Teen Division for Crafts to Go projects and families with young children can enjoy Sunday Story Time Sampler in the Children’s Library at 2 pm. The Getting Started in Family History Exhibit will be on view in the Special Collections Division.
Summit Artspace
Summit Artspace, located two blocks east of the museum at the corner of Market and Summit, is open from 11 am to 5 pm. Enjoy an Artists of Rubber City demo from 1 - 3 pm; a Kate Budd sculpture exhibition will also be on view.
Trolley Transportation
Free trolley transportation to the three venues will be provided by the City of Akron. In a continuous loop, the trolley will stop at the main entrances of the museum and Summit Artspace and the High Street entrance of the library.
